Glashütte Original

The origins of Glashütte Original can be traced back to an ambitious decision by the German government to start a watchmaking industry in the former German silver mining town of Glashütte in Saxony. On December 7th, 1845 the first residents started their apprenticeship as watchmakers and by the beginning of the 20th century, Glashütte timepieces had gained worldwide recognition for their excellence.

Glashütte Original was one of the watch companies that was formed after the reunification of Germany and the privatization of VEB Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe, an East German conglomerate of watch companies in the German town. Glashütte Original is today owned by The Swatch Group.
