De Bethune

De Bethune was founded in 2002 by David Zanetta, an art and watch collector, and Denis Flageollet, the fourth generation of a family of watchmakers. Together they have built one of the most prestigious, high-end Swiss watch brands, focusing on improving horology in terms of both precision and aesthetics in the spirit of the great 18th century master watchmakers.

The brand counts 27 in-house movements, has unveiled 30 world premier innovations, and has filed numerous patents. Its motto is “Not doing more, but instead doing better”.

Five interesting facts about De Bethune

  • The company is named after French nobleman and watchmaker Chevalier de Bethune, who is best remembered for his invention of an escapement for pocket watches and clocks in 1727.
  • De Bethune watches often feature stunning blued titanium elements that are achieved by meticulously heating titanium until it turns to this bright blue color.
  • Denis Flageollet has also spent time restoring antique timepieces and clocks at the watchmaking museum in Le Locle.
  • All De Bethune’s watch components are designed, developed, and produced in-house.
  • 50% of the brand’s watches don’t feature a logo or the brand’s name on the dial as its co-founders consider that their clients purchase a timepiece for their love of watchmaking, not for a brand name.
