This WHO WORE WHAT, a series spotlighting the hottest wrists of the week, documenting the classic, the chic, the weird and the wonderful watches over the past seven days.
What is it about celebrities that makes us want to stop and stare and see what they’re wearing? Either way, we’re happy to oblige and gawk in awe, amaze and shock(!) at their wrists to see exactly who is wearing what.
It was a good week for Audemars Piguet – no surprises there – as the Royal Oak accompanied A-listers from courtside to the club. While humble staples from Omega and Rolex remained faithfully on our radar, the avant-garde Jacob & Co., renowned for their crazy masterpieces, both in price and presence, and found their way in front of the camera.
Tracking wrists from the catwalk to the carpet, discover this week’s haute horology picks from the likes of Serena William to Virgil Abloh.
Serena Williams in Audemars Piguet
Serena stans will know that if she’s wearing a watch, chances are it’s an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. Spotted this week walking the red carpet at the AFI Festival Closing Premiere of the upcoming King Richard, an American biographical drama on Richard Williams his two internationally acclaimed daughters, Venus and Serena. Sporting a 37mm Royal Oak Chronograph in stainless steel with a diamond bezel.
Aitch in Jacob & Co.
Opting for exclsuvity, the British rapper Aitch hailing from Manchester sports a Jacob & Co. Epic X Skeleton Titanium Red watch. Sharing the timepiece on his stories from America, creating music in the studio for future release, he papped his wrist to show off the limited model, each individually numbered in a titanium case and sapphire crystal open case back. As haute as haute horology gets.
Idris Elba in Rolex
Taking to Instagram this week, Idris Elba went live with fans to chat following the release of Elba’s latest film on Netflix, The Harder They Fall starring Regina King. Allowing his followers to request to join the live call – I myself admittedly attempted, to no avail – Elba could be seen sporting his signature Black Venom Rolex Datejust 36. With a stainless steel black case, in 36mm, the original Datejust launched in 1945, become the world’s first waterproof automatic wristwatch, displaying the date on the dial. Often regarded as an entry-level watch into the world of collecting, Elba adds his own twist with the unique case and strap, and matching dial.
Andrew Garfield in Omega
Promoting his latest film, a musical drama Tick, Tick…Boom! which follows the story of a young theater composer navigating love, friendship and the pressures of life as an artist in New York City, Andrew Garfield took to the red carpet this week. Paired with a crisp maroon suit, Garfield wore a classic Omega De Ville Trésor. First launched in 1949 and housed the legendary 30mm calibre, more than half a century later, the De Ville Trésor has been reintroduced in 40mm, equipped with one of the most advanced mechanical movements the brand has ever unveiled.
Virgil Abloh in Jacob & Co.
A partisan for postmodernism, Virgil Abloh likes to take existing objects and put his own spin on them. It makes sense then that he has his own specially customized Jacob & Co. watch. Reconfiguring the Five Time Zone model, Albloh opted for a finish in black PVD and stainless steel with 119 diamonds and in 47mm diameter. Just your average model for courtside.

Travis Barker in Rolex
It’s not half bad being in the good books of the Kardashians. Particulalry if your birthday is around the corner. No doubt your Instagram has been littered with the unwavering PDA of Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker for some weeks now. But to mark the singer’s birthday this last week, Kim, Kris and her parter Corey gifted the Blink-182 star a customized Rolex Submariner with a black bezel and red dial. Complete with a skull and crossbones to match the recent tattoo ink he got earlier this year.
Price: Ask the Momager.
Bella Thorne in Audemars Piguet
They say a broken clock is right twice a day. But rather than air on the side of caution, why not just get two watches instead? Known for decorated both wrists with ice, Bella Horne flaunts – just the one this time – an Audemars Piguet Royal Steel Diamond Watch. Neither low key in price tag, nor appearance, the American actress, model, and singer writes “it’s Friday and i’m looking for trouble.” Imagine the trouble of losing a diamond. *Cue Kim K’s trip to Bora Bora*
