Named after major freeways in Germany – A3, A7, A9 – discover new Nomos Autobahn Director’s Cut Limited Edition, with bipartite steel case (41 mm), domed sapphire crystal glass, white, dark blue or black dial, with orange, yellow or black luminous ring, automatic caliber DUW 6101, Sport Director’s Cut bracelet, limited to 175 pieces each.

Strictly limited from the word go: Autobahn is the name of a watch from Nomos Glashütte. Now it is available in a trailblazing new limited edition: A3, A7, A9—named after major freeways in Germany. With three new colors and a new bracelet, the collector’s piece is Werner Aisslinger’s “Director’s Cut” and marks 175 years of Glashütte watchmaking heritage.

Very dashing, in very special colors: With three new “Director’s Cut” versions of the automatic watch Autobahn, Nomos Glashütte is celebrating 175 years of Glashütte watchmaking heritage in a very contemporary way. Designed by renowned designer Werner Aisslinger, the timepiece is the latest model from the watchmaking company. The three new colors—A3 in white-orange red, A7 in blue-yellow, and A9 in black-gray—are much more eye-catching than the existing versions and are reminiscent of the kinds of vehicles that adorned the streets of Germany in the ‘60s and ‘70s.

But the new Nomos watches are much more beautiful than vintage cars; their engines are more efficient and, of course, better for the environment: neomatik caliber (neomatik stands for new automatic) DUW 6101 uses a highly efficient winding mechanism to charge itself through motion. Despite the date complication, the movement is exceptionally slender, measuring just 3.2 millimeters in height. The lean design of the in-house built caliber enables the dial to transition from curve to curve: Once around the edge of the raised dial, and again on the sub-seconds dial. The elegant curves give the impression of depth on the dial, a dynamic and novel feature for such a timepiece. Eye-catching below the six and set into the curve of the dial: The generously proportioned and patented date window.

Thanks to the striking luminous ring, all three special models are legible in the dark. These limited-edition models have been adjusted according to chronometer standards in Glashütte. The bracelet with its characteristic openings and the Nomos secure deployant clasp is, like the watch, a creation by the renowned designer, and is only available with these special versions. As such, the Director’s Cut bracelet is also limited edition.

Autobahn Director’s Cut Limited Edition A3

Werner Aisslinger associates the Autobahn by Nomos with travel, with looking at the speedometer and with a love of mechanical watches. The design of the Director’s Cut A3 special model is based on the dashboard instruments of the 80s. “The luminous tangerine ring on the white dial emphasizes the sportiness of this watch.” Despite the intensity of this color, there is still room for subtle accents: the light blue neomatik lettering indicates that a new-generation Nomos automatic movement is at work in this watch. The same beautiful color was chosen for the hands.

Autobahn Director’s Cut Limited Edition A9

Werner Aisslinger stripped the design of the A9 dial to its essentials while at the same time making reading the time at night an experience. In brilliant turquoise, the extra-thick superluminova hour blocks of the 240-degree scale ring glow against a dark background, and the tip of the slender minute hand is also luminescent. The design of the A9 particularly emphasizes the precision work of the manufacturing. The primary color, black, represents the rational orientation of the minimalist design.

Autobahn Director’s Cut Limited Edition A7

“Fans of 60s and 70s chronometers will love the blue and yellow contrast of the A7” (Werner Aisslinger). The A7 shows off the surface relief of the highway particularly well. The fine indexes have been carefully printed in the curves of the dial, milled from a single piece. The three-dimensionality of the dial planes is achieved without making the watch look bulky, as the Nomos DUW 6101 automatic movement is exceptionally flat at just 3.6 millimeters. The dark blue of the dial and the vibrant yellow of the luminous ring embody a refined blend of expressive design and sophisticated technology.
